Skålgropar / ”Bowl”-carvings

Kolsby har sedan några årtionden varit känt just för denna samling skålgropar. Det är en stor samling skålgropar men också för att de är så stora och djupa. När de först upptäcktes räknade man till 452 skålgropar men fältarkeologerna Tommy Andersson och Andreas Toreld tror att de har hittat runt 100 stycken till.

Kolsby has for some decades been known precisely for this collection ”bowl”-carvings. It is a large collection of carvings but also because they are so large and deep . When they were first discovered they were counted to 452 ”bowl”-carvings, but field archaeologists Tommy Andersson and Andreas Toreld think they have found around 100 more.

Som ni ser är texten gammal eftersom den gamla förskolan numer är vårt hus.

As you can see , the text is old because the old nursery nowadays is our house.

This is what Gärotekullen looks today and now it will be cleaned free from moss and other things . However, they shall not be painted.

Fler hällristningar / More rock carvings

Arbetet med att fylla i hällristningarna närmar sig slutet och vi får se de nyfunna ristningarna träda fram. Hästen uppe till vänster är ovanlig i Bohuslän.

The work with painting the rock carvings is nearing the end and we can see the newly found carvings come forward. The horse up to the left is unusual in Bohuslän.

Hällristningar / Rock carvings

Den här veckan har vi haft två killar här som dokumenterar och färgar de hällristningarna som vi har runt knuten. Det är mycket intressant att se dem arbeta och hällristningar som träder fram.

Fältarkeolog Andreas Toreld är färgblind och tillsammans med fältarkeolog Tommy Andersson testar de nu en gulockra kulör att framhäva hällristningarna med.

This week we have had two guys here that document and color the rock carvings that we have around the corner. It is very interesting to see them work and carvings that emerge.

Field Archaeologist Andreas Toreld is color blind and together with field archaeologist Tommy Andersson they now tests to have a yellow ocher color to accentuate the rock carvings with.

Det har även gjorts en del nyfynd och vi har en känsla av att det finns mer att se. Här rensar Andreas Toreld hällen och för första gången i de nu levandes tid får vi se dessa skepp med besättning. Ett av de två skeppen tordes vara från järnåldern (sena hällristningar) då skeppen ofta avbildades med symmetriska stävar.

There have also been some new discoveries and we have a feeling that there is more to see. Andreas Toreld clears the rock and for the first time in the time of now living we get to see these ships with crew. One of the two ships seemes to be from the Iron Age (late petroglyphs) as the ships often are imaged with symmetrical stems.

Juni och hennes vän Tindra tyckte det var fantastiskt och roligt att få se och höra om de gamla hällristningarna.

Ljuset är en viktig komponent i arbetet med att finna och framhäva de gamla hällristningarna. Sent igår när jag gick och lade mig spelade ficklampors sken över de vackra bergen och en del av mig önskade sig dit ut för att få ta del av det fantastiska som killarna fick se medan resten av mig längtade till en väl behövd sömn.

Light is an important component in the process of finding and marking the ancient rock carvings. Late yesterday when I went to bed, torches shone over the beautiful mountains and part of me wanted to go out there to take part of the fantastic sights that the guys got to see but the rest of me longed for a well needed sleep.
